Fashion Diaries: What to Wear in New Orleans

What to Wear and What to Do in New Orleans in 24 Hours

Whew! It’s been a minute! I’m so happy to be back at this writing game after dealing with a broken leg for the last 3 months. After hearing the bone in my leg snap, having surgery, figuring out how to look cute on crutches and wearing a walking boot, I was more than ready for a vacation this Spring. Luckily, my doctor told me I could give my boot the “boot” right before we left, so it made the trip that much sweeter. I knew I wanted to wear something easy to pull on and off (because who can bend with a broken leg) and definitely wanted something that was cute but lightweight. If you didn’t know, that southern heat is no joke!

So off I went to scour the internet in search of a few great pieces for my trip. I knew my kids would keep me active, but I still had to slay! At a recommendation from one of my faves, I decided to give boohoo.com a try and I was pleasantly surprised by their plus size collection. I picked up this easy-to -wear maxi skirt and the perfect printed tee for under $40…COMBINED. We’ll discuss how I put the look together below a little bit later in the post, but for now let’s talk about where you have to visit on your trip to the Big Easy!

Walking Around Town: My Day Look

WHERE TO GO: We only had 24 hours in the city, and we wanted to make the best of it. Of course, a must stop is anywhere in the city that serves cajun seafood, jambalaya and gumbo. Alright…red beans and rice too! Needless to say we made our rounds, but one of our favorite stops was to the Corner Oyster Bar right in the heart of the French Quarter. The catfish and gumbo were to die for! Check out one of the several plates of seafood we had over the vacay below :)

PRO TIP: I would suggest staying close to the French Quarter if you only have 24 hours and want to see a variety of touristy things. Here’s a cool go-to guide to consider:

The 24 Hour “Must See” Guide for New Orleans

Take in the beautiful “must see” sights like grabbing a beignet at Cafe du Monde before strolling through the breathtaking Jackson Square. Feel like seeing the entire French Quarter the old fashioned way? Hop onto one of the many mule-driven carriages that line the front of Jackson Square, just in view of the St. Louis Cathedral Church. We took the kids on a night time tour of the quarter and they LOVED it. Plus, it’s the best time to hear ghost stories, learn a little history and see the gaslights lit up. Trust me, you will feel transported back in time.

Feel like shopping? Head over to Magazine Street, New Orleans most shoppable area filled with cafes, boutiques, artisan shoppes and places for the person with a sweet tooth, like Sucre. We stopped by for gelato and of course…macarons :)

WHAT TO WEAR: As you take in the sights and sounds of New Orleans, do so in this effortlessly chic look. I took an oversized printed tshirt and gave it shape by knotting it in the front. In my pictures you will notice I have a little bit of my midriff showing. If this isn’t your style, just keep the knot a little bit lower. I was living my best life and didn’t mind showing off a little skin. Now, this skirt needs to be in every woman’s closet. It’s so light weight and has a wonderful soft band around the waist. It’s versatile and makes your slay game that much easier. I linked both items for you below!

Happy Travels! No go on and have a Hurricane for me!

**Editors Note: I will be doing a post of a few other places we went in NOLA with the kids separately. This was mainly to give you a fashion fix :)
