Things to Do in Ft. Wayne: Holiday Edition

DSC_1136.JPG

We're well into the Holidays and though I'm sure you've trimmed the tree and snagged that coveted ugly Christmas sweater, I'm hoping you haven't planned all of your holiday festivities. Recently we visited Ft. Wayne and completely fell in love with its small-town charm. They know a thing or two about doing the Holidays right. Let's take a look.

where to stay

We were elated to find out we were staying in downtown Fort Wayne for most of our holiday adventures. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott and loved it. The Everything is within 10 minutes of driving, and a few of our stops were located within walking distance. They have a great breakfast package you can add on from Conners, the on-site restaurant. It didn’t hurt that downtown just screamed Holiday. Everywhere we turned we say decorations. Our kids loved it!

Festival of Trees

In its 25th year, the Festival of Trees is a must-see when you visit Fort Wayne. Located inside of the beautiful Embassy Theatre, tour over 50 trees designed by local businesses and clubs. While you're there, vote on your favorite tree, catch a performance from local youth dance groups and visit the BIG GUY in the red suit! An unforgettable time. Check out a few of our favorites below!

From the Embassy Theatre Webpage:

Founded in 1984, the Festival of Trees supports ongoing operational and restoration efforts for the Embassy Theatre Foundation. The festival is the organization’s largest annual fundraising event. Tickets are $8/adult, $4/youth ages 4-12, children 3 and under free (ticket required). Purchase tickets at the STAR Bank box office at the Embassy Theatre (260.424.6287), on the events page of the Embassy website as well as www.ticketmaster.com (800.745.3000).

Joyeux Noel: A French Christmas

I'll be the first to admit this event wasn't on our radar. Luckily the crew over at Visit Fort Wayne told us all about this cool tradition so we had to check it out. Joyeux Noel means "Merry Christmas" and is celebrated in the Old Fort near Downtown Fort Wayne. Being complete history junkies, J and I hoped the wanted the kids to experience this tradition. To our surprise they loved it; from doing drills in the courtyard to playing old fashioned board and card games inside one of the barracks, the place was authentic and memorable.

Fantasy of Lights

Taking the kiddos on adventures to see Christmas lights has been a tradition we’ve upheld for years. We has the opportunity to attend the Fantasy of lights in Fort Wayne and it didn’t disappoint. Start your journey with a trip to see Santa in the workshop. While you’re there, grab a hot cocoa and some popcorn on the house!

Botanical Conservatory

This place is magic for epic Christmas card photo sessions! Make your way through 3 buildings filled with tropical gardens, deserts and of course, beautiful Christmas trees! We had a blast! The best part is definitely the outside nighttime light display! Fun times were had!

What are your favorite things to do during the holidays? Which Fort Wayne excursion is your fave?
