Diner en Blank Came to Indianapolis, IN!

I’ve always been the type of person who lived for extravagance. When I found out Le Diner en Blanc was coming to Indy, I knew I had to be a part of it….but it’s not that simple. There are rules and a strict code that needs to be followed. That’s not all-you still have to be INVITED to go and there are phases of entry into this lavish event. This ultra exclusive experience is the epitome of pomp and circumstance. I couldn’t have been more excited to embrace it all. To help you understand why I needed to get into this exclusive event, I should probably answer the question most of you are asking right now- What is Diner en Blanc?

The History of Diner en Blanc

Diner en Blanc is a huge event that started in Paris, France 30 years ago. Since then, it has become a worldwide phenomenon- hosting over 120,000 people in 30 countries. Prepare yourself. This is quite the event, and it requires serious tenacity and style. For starters, let’s cover the basics.

Le Dîner en Blanc is a much-anticipated annual event, the location of which is only revealed at the very last minute. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.

So yes. You read that correctly. Thousands of people descend onto a location that they learn of only minutes before arrival, all dressed in white….classy AF. I thought to myself….oh yes, this is happening, then I dove deeper into the rules.

*You must be dressed in all-white.

*Exude elegance in everything. #IssaVibe

*Everything you bring has to be white, with the exception of your table, which will be covered with a white tablecloth.

*Rain or shine, the event goes on. Prepare yourself and bring a (you guessed it) white umbrella.

*No beer is allowed. Only wine and champagne.

*Prepare your food…and bring it with you…yep.

*Bring a trash bag. You are committing to cleaning up after yourself. You should leave the space the way it was before…or better.

Wait…..you have to bring your own food?

Yes. It’s one of the rules of Diner en Blanc. As a guest, you are expected to bring your own food and table settings. It’s tradition, and we were happy to get into the game. We opted for more of a charcuterie feel, and brought a great selection of meats, cheeses, dips and pretzels from Moody’s Butcher Shop in Zionsville , IN. Some of you may remember I partnered with Moody’s over the Summer to show you how to build a charcuterie board. It was so great to have my fave snackable items at the event. Let me tell you, this dip is amazing…go get it…you’re welcome. PRO TIP: We used a cupcake holder I snagged at Macy’s to hold our snacks. Worried about them falling through? Lightly line the tiers with white paper napkins to continue the all white theme, but add a little dimension! We weren’t the only ones to get the all-white look right. Take a look at these tables that got it right!

What to Wear

Obviously, this was where I focused hard. Whoever said you can’t wear white after Labor Day did not get an invite to Diner en Blanc! White clothing is required to really do this event justice, and I do mean white, not cream or off-white. Can you imagine standing in a sea of crisp white wearing cream? That’s fashion suicide at Diner en Blanc. Lucky for us, Macy’s has great options late into the year to assist in your style hunt for an all -white look. I had the pleasure of working with them for this project and I was amazed at their extensive collection of clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry! Make sure you keep Macy’s on your radar if you are fortunate enough to end up on the invite list to the spectacular event! Here are a few style do’s and don’ts while shopping for Diner en Blanc.

DO: Go for Drama! For Diner en Blanc, You go big or go home.

I opted for a dramatic shift dress. This isn’t a typical look for me, as I tend to go towards longer and flowy gowns. I just loved the structure of this dress and knew it was perfect for the event. I paired it with white boots and a crystal jewelry. My fave piece- my Grandmother’s brooch. It was an honor to have her with me at this event. She was the ultimate socialite. >>>>>>>Shop My Look: Dress, Boots: Eloquii

The Verdict: Would I do it again?

Absolutely. The ambiance is other-worldly. Everyone was in such a great mood, and we had great reason to be. Diner en Blanc Indy put on a great show, and to be honest- that part was unexpected. We had ballet dancers, a New Orleans jazz band and a DJ to take us into the evening hours in pure bliss. There was smiling, dancing, laughter and so much more. It could be the champagne from local favorites, Easley Winery that had us out there dancing the night away, but I believe it was deeper than that. This was an experience..one that we all chose to be a part of. We celebrated each other and were present. That’s the true magic of Diner en Blanc.
